I found a few more quotes from the past that I just couldn’t pass up to share this month. Comments from 1957:

Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging a dime just to mail a letter?

When I first started driving who would have thought gas would someday cost $.29 cents a gallon. Guess we’d be better off leaving the car in the garage.

No one can afford to be sick anymore; $35 a day in the hospital is too rich for my blood.

SIGNS OF A BAD WINTER

According to folklore we don’t need weather forecasters. We need to just look at the squirrels and onions for signs.

Squirrels’ gathering nuts in flurry, Will cause snow to gather in a hurry AND a tough winter is ahead if their tails area bushy.

(Are you polishing the snow shovel yet?)

Trees, flowers, vegetables, and other plants are in the weather business as well.

When leaves drop early, autumn and winter will be mild, but if they fall late, winter will be severe.

Folklore claims that thicker onion skins can signal a cold and snowy winter.

“Onions skins very thin, mild winter coming in: Onions’ skin thick and tough, Coming winter cold and rough. “
